Core Strengths

Eligibility & Benefits Verification

Know what’s covered—before the birth.
We contact the payer and analyze plan details so families can make informed decisions early, and your team isn’t chasing answers midstream.

Claim Submission & Tracking

Submitted correctly. Tracked relentlessly.
We submit claims through our established corporate billing structure, with optimized coding and documentation designed to reduce rework, improve clean-claim outcomes, and keep momentum moving toward payment.

Denial & Appeal Management

Denials are part of the game. We treat them like a process—not a crisis.
We build thorough, documentation-forward appeals based on plan terms and relevant state or federal requirements, and we manage follow-up so denials don’t quietly become write-offs.

Payment Reconciliation & Reporting

Nothing disappears. Nothing is “maybe.”
We track every claim and payment, reconcile discrepancies, and provide clear summaries—so you always know what was paid, what wasn’t, and why.

Patient Support & Explanation of Benefits

Less confusion. Fewer headaches for your team.
We help you understand how to explain how benefits apply and why up-front payments may differ from final out-of-pocket costs once insurance processes the claim. If a refund is due, your team handles it—and we help ensure the documentation is clean and complete.

Virtual Office for Every Provider

Organized. Efficient. Secure.
Your virtual office keeps claim-related communication in one place, accessible anytime—so you’re not digging through inboxes or piecing together timelines.

Our Story

A Midwife’s Mission Becomes a Movement
Stacy Lewis Carruth, CPM, began her midwifery career in 1992. Over the past three decades, she has served as both a midwife and director at two licensed birth centers. While attending hundreds of births, she gained extensive experience in both clinical care and healthcare administration—including the complex world of insurance reimbursement.

Through this work, Stacy observed a discrepancy: families receiving maternity care from licensed midwives often faced denied or delayed insurance payments, while those receiving care from licensed physicians had their claims processed without issue. Despite both professions being licensed healthcare providers, midwifery care was not reimbursed fairly.

Determined to change this, Stacy committed herself to finding a way for health insurance to cover out-of-hospital births. As a mother of nine, she was no stranger to perseverance—and she brought that same determination to this cause.

What began with a humble mission has grown into a powerful movement with real, measurable results.

The Turning Point
In 2009, Stacy met a groundbreaking attorney who had won over $300 million in settlements for out-of-network healthcare providers. His legal victories helped physicians escape low-paying insurance contracts and led to the founding of Edge Medical Solutions, Inc.. Stacy became the first midwife to join Edge—and the results were immediate.  Claims for her birth clients were finally being paid fairly.

National Birth Centers, Inc. Is Born
Soon after, they co-founded National Birth Centers, Inc. to focus exclusively on billing for midwives and out-of-hospital facilities. Under this model, midwives became contracted providers with National Birth Centers, and claims were submitted under the company’s existing payer agreements. This innovative structure gives midwives the leverage they need to get reimbursed for their care.

Today: Midwives Advantage
Eventually, Stacy became the sole owner of the business. She expanded its reach and refined its processes to better serve midwives nationwide. That growth became Midwives Advantage. Today, midwives and birth centers in 38 states benefit from this work.  Our mission is simple: Help midwives get paid fairly by insurance companies, so families can choose the birth experience that suits them best.
